Our work at Hakem Energies isn’t only about making safe quality LPG accessible and available. It’s about actively building a just, inclusive and climate-resilient future.
Our LPG solutions and business model are deeply aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals shape our strategy, partnerships and the impact we deliver across communities.
By lowering household energy costs and creating income-generating opportunities for women and youth, we contribute to economic stability and resilience. Our micro-distribution model enables informal workers and rural entrepreneurs to enter the formal clean energy economy.
The shift from paraffin, wood and coal to clean-burning LPG dramatically reduces indoor air pollution, a leading cause of respiratory illness in low-income households. Our solutions directly improve health outcomes, especially for women and children.
This is also true wherever we help corporates transition from their current energy sources to LPG – often dramatically lowering emissions in local communities.
Women are at the heart of our community distribution strategy. We train and support female entrepreneurs to become LPG distributors, creating dignified livelihoods and elevating their status as leaders in the just energy transition.
This is our core mission. Hakem is making clean, affordable LPG energy accessible to under-served and vulnerable communities through innovative delivery models like the Hakem LPG Box, tailored for informal settings. We specifically target rural lower LSM spaces that are hard to access – where our contribution is needed most.
Our operations generate local employment, from safety technicians and delivery drivers to admin teams and trainers. We also run education and certification programmes to equip young people with industry-relevant skills.
Hakem is actively investing in decentralised LPG infrastructure, including refill stations, mobile storage and safe installations, particularly in areas not served by traditional energy grids.
By introducing clean fuel into informal settlements and peri-urban areas, we enhance the safety, sustainability and resilience of these communities – reducing fire risks, pollution and energy-related conflict.
Our transition from high-carbon fuels to LPG (and future renewables) contributes directly to greenhouse gas reduction, aligning with both national and international climate targets. Every LPG Hub displaces harmful emissions from biomass and paraffin.
As a proudly local company, Hakem Energies is committed to supporting South Africa’s own commitments to the G20 and the African Union (AU – specifically to accelerate inclusive, low-carbon development. Our work speaks directly to:
South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Framework outlines a move away from coal towards cleaner energy, while ensuring no community is left behind. Hakem is accelerating this by placing the most marginalised – especially women and youth – at the centre of energy access and opportunity.
The G20 Development Working Group (DWG) focuses on job creation through digital, green and care economies. Our LPG Hub model and distribution strategy creates employment in rural and township economies, supporting G20 objectives around inclusive entrepreneurship and skills development.
South Africa’s updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) commit to a lower carbon emissions path. Hakem’s work in displacing biomass and paraffin with LPG supports near-term decarbonisation goals while laying the foundation for scalable clean cooking infrastructure.
The G20 prioritises SME support, especially that of women-led SMEs. As a 100% black female-owned company, Hakem offers a blueprint for G20-aligned, gender-responsive enterprise development. Our infrastructure model ensures equitable access to essential services and energy.
Hakem’s impact model is aligned with the AU’s Agenda 2063 – specifically goals around access to modern energy services, economic integration and sustainable livelihoods. By anchoring local supply chains and energy infrastructure in underserved regions, Hakem contributes meaningfully to regional integration and resilience.
Hakem Energies is an ESG-driven social enterprise. Every unit of gas we deliver, every entrepreneur we train and every household we convert to LPG represents measurable environmental, social and governance impact. Our operations support:
We believe the energy transition must be fair, inclusive, and people-powered – and we are proud to be building it through our innovative partnerships and solutions.
